The Mid-South Bengali Association (MSBA) is the first probashi non-profit Bengali club in Memphis, which started celebrating Durga Puja in the year 1980. This association stemmed from an evening gossip of several Bengali families residing in the Memphis region, several decades ago. Dr. Ajit and Chhanda Biswas, Dr. Syamal and Keka Bhattacharya, and Drs. Jayanta and Banani Dirghangi took the initiative of celebrating the biggest festival of the Bengalis, the worship of goddess Durga, almost forty five years ago in Memphis, TN. Since then, this Bengali-American association in the Mid-South region continuously presented the best of Bengali culture and tradition with elegance and pride. This association has grown enormously over the years- thanks to the relentless efforts of our volunteers, members, executive committee members, and sponsors. In recent years, MSBA has provided a forum, where religious and cultural events are organized throughout the year to bring enjoyment and bliss to the Mid-South Bengali community- thousand miles away from home.
